The Museum's permanent collection soars
in celebration of nature with historic
and contemporary paintings, sculptures,
and works on paper that focus on birds.
In addition, 8-10 changing exhibitions
each year bring to central Wisconsin a
wide array of art from around the world.
A highlight of the exhibition schedule
is "Birds in Art" in September
and October, an annual event always worth
crowing about that attracts both international
artists and visitors. The Margaret Woodson
Fisher Sculpture Gallery is a beautifully
landscaped 1.5 acre garden dotted with
works from the permanent collection as
well as temporary exhibitions. You'll
enjoy exploring this outdoor gallery with
the changing seasons as a natural backdrop.
It is also the site of a popular summer
concert series. Educational programs abound
for visitors of all ages through guided
tours, demonstrations, lectures, and hands-on
activities. Consult the Museum's web site
for specific exhibition and program information.

home which was built for Cyrus Yawkey,
a prominent citizen of early Wausau. Listed
in the National Register of Historic Places
in 1974 and designated as a Wausau Historic
Landmark in 1976, the exterior of the
building remains unchanged. An authentically
furnished music room, dining room and
parlor give a taste of gracious living
of a bygone era. The rooms of the second
and third floors have been remodeled to
house rotating and visiting exhibits,
the library of the Historical Society,
plus rooms for group meetings and guest
speakers. From April to October, the formal
gardens are open to visitors displaying
a colorful array of native wildflowers,

antique farm equipment, vintage dairy
equipment, large wagons, carriages, common
household items and more. In celebration
of the Sesquicentennial of Marathon County,
there will be a picture display of yesteryear
from Townships and Villages and a collection

Attractions
at the Grand Theater Originally opened
in 1927 as an opera house, the Grand Theater
is a beautiful Classical-revival structure
containing stunning examples of colonnades,
marble statuettes and a solid Bedford
limestone facade. In 1987, a community-sponsored
restoration project brought the theater
back to its past glory. Included with
that, a fully computerized lighting and
sound system and extensive stage rigging
were added to the structure. Today, the
theater hosts both touring and local productions
and concerts. Please check the calendar
of events for information about upcoming
performances.
